New Design Submission Process at Society6 - Effective July 22, 2025Updated a month ago

We're excited to announce important changes to our design submission process, designed to enhance the quality of designs on our platform and ensure a superior shopping experience for our customers.

What's Changing?

Previously, when you submitted a design, it became immediately discoverable. While this offered quick turnaround, it sometimes led to challenges with intellectual property infringement and the presence of public domain content that didn't align with our brand values.

To address these issues and elevate the overall quality of our marketplace, we're introducing a curated review process for all new design submissions.

How the New Process Works

Here’s what you can expect with the new moderation system:

  • Curated Review: All new designs will now go through a review process by our expert curators before being published.

  • Quality Assurance Check: Our curators will assess your artwork, title, and tags to ensure they meet Society6’s quality standards and align with our brand and guidelines.

  • Approval & Publication: Once approved, your design will go live and become discoverable and purchasable on Society6.

  • Optimized for Discoverability: Curators may update titles and tags to improve accuracy and search visibility, helping your design(s) reach more shoppers.

  • Declined Designs: If a design doesn’t meet our standards, it will be marked as "Declined" and won’t be published.

Important Note on Submitting Designs

We're making a small but important update to the submission process:

  • "Pending" Status for Review: Once submitted, a design enters "Pending" status and can no longer be edited. To avoid issues, we recommend keeping your design in Draft until you're confident the image, title, and tags are final. When everything is ready, submit it for review.

Important Update on Product Enablement:

Going forward, when you submit a design to Society6, we will no longer automatically enable art prints, framed art prints, and mini framed art prints by default. You will now need to go into your Products tab on the design detail page and manually select which products you would like your designs printed on prior to submitting your design to Society6.

How Long Does the Review Process Take?

Once you submit your design for review, it can take up to 30 business days for your design and its associated products to be either published on the Society6 website or declined.

Tracking Your Submissions

We're also enhancing your Artist Studio to provide greater transparency:

  • Design Status: You can now track the status of your submissions in your Artist Studio, including whether a design was approved and published.

  • Decline Reasons: If a design is declined, the reason will be clearly noted on the design detail page to help guide future submissions.

Temporary Pause on Design Submissions

To ensure a smooth transition and successful implementation of this new system, design submissions will be paused from Wednesday, July 16th at 12 AM Pacific Time until Tuesday, July 22nd at 12 PM Pacific Time.

We will send a confirmation email once design submissions are re-enabled. We appreciate your patience and understanding as we work to bring you this improved experience.

What Value Do These Changes Bring to You and Society6?

We know change takes adjustment, but we believe these updates will bring meaningful benefits to you and the Society6 community:

  • Stronger Brand Reputation: Curated, original content reinforces Society6 as a premium destination for unique art.
  • Greater Discoverability: High-quality designs will stand out more with less low-quality or infringing content competing for attention.
  • A Fairer Storefront: This process helps protect your intellectual property and supports a level playing field for original artists.
  • Better Shopper Experience: A more refined catalog means happier customers—and more opportunities for your art to sell.

We’re excited about this next chapter and what it means for our artist community. Please visit our FAQ for additional details.

Thank you for your continued creativity and partnership.
